So many things happened this weekend we’re not sure where to start. Here is the skinny on the ride, a new location we visited in Long Beach, and how we bamboozled our buddy (a notorious procrastinator) into buying his first road bike.
Our Longest Ride
41 miles! (40.8 to be exact, give us the two-tenths would you?) One of our guys has only had his bike for a month now and the longest ride he’s been on was 20 miles. We like the progress he’s making and his cardio is getting better, but on the last few miles, he got dropped like a bad habit by a guy on a single speed bike (this guys’ Thor beard and man bun must have given him super powers) and another dude that was cruising with no hands.
Don't forget the sunscreen and slather yourself in it like butter! Also, plan your route ahead of time! While riding through Carson Street in heavy traffic, we found out there was a designated bike path across the street which we should have been on. STAY SAFE!
Steel Craft Long Beach
Steel Craft Long Beach is on the corner of Bixby Road and Long Beach Boulevard, the buildings are made of old steel cargo containers and there is a patio in the middle for sitting (and great for the beloved bike). Each steel structure contains a different vendor which range from burgers to ramen and all things in between, but the crown jewel of the location is Smog City Brewery.
The Brewery is the heart of all the action and is situated in the center of the patio. We got the pleasure of trying their Steel Craft IPA and the Sabre-Toothed Squirrel amber ale (bad ass name), both delicious and refreshing on our short stop there. There was a smorgasbord of vendors at Steel Craft we did not try. All looked delicious so we will definitely be back to eat, drink and conquer once and for all! Stay tuned for an upcoming event to Steel Craft Long Beach.
Bamboozled Into Getting a Road Bike
Meet Nolberto (a.k.a Jeter) he rocks a Thor beard and man bun, he’s an English soccer fan and a savage at heart (hence the castaway look). He’s a long time friend of the biciamour crew and a notorious procrastinator. This weekend he joined us on for an epic 40-mile ride and surprisingly smoked all of us on a single speed bike he borrowed.
Some of us have tested our fate on the borrowed bike we lend new riders but have failed! It feels like riding while dragging a boulder and sitting on a cactus. How he managed 40-miles was beyond us.
After our ride and plenty of drinks (aka decision makers) he informs some of us that he is definitely interested in purchasing his first bike for leisure and commuting. Knowing his rep, we knew he would put off buying a bike for a long time! So still inebriated and tired the next morning we decided to make the decision easy. We Logged into www.giant-bicycles.com (thank you guys), picked a bike we knew he would love, borrowed his finger to confirm the sale and Wam… Bam… Thank You, Mam! Our buddy was now a proud owner of a great road bike with great financing terms. It took him a few hours to sink in that he had purchased a road bike, but ultimately he is glad he did.
